Nature's most perfect flower, Narcissis [userpic]

I am awed by Margaret Atwood's ability to combine current headlines with a slippery slope to come up with a believably frightening novel of the possible near-future. And then she does it again, and again. The comparisons to Orwell and Huxley are not overdone.

TYOTF shares a setting and a few characters with Oryx and Crake. I'm going to have to go back now and re-read O&C to see where the stories line up and overlap. Everything in TYOTF is so real, so possible. The mindsets, the attitudes, the technology and its almost-inherent misuse. I had a bit of a difficult time getting into O&C that I didn't with this new book. I think it's because all of the characters in the first 300 pages are human. :)

If you're a fan of Atwood's dystopian fiction, check it out. Even if you didn't care so much for Oryx & Crake.

A Beautiful Virago Named Hope [userpic]

I have let y'all down this month. We just moved and we're still settling in. And my cat is very ill. I've been focusing on home a lot and this just slipped between the cracks. Please read any 2 of the books suggested in the last post's comments and let us know how you liked them.
Thank you, happy reading and happy holidays.
